ECOPETROL S.A. is the National Oil Company (NOC) in Colombia, and currently one of the four main companies in the oil and gas sector in Latin America. During 2010 and 2011 ECOPETROL S. A. was nominated as one of the finalists for the Global Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) award, as a result of the work done since 2004 around the topic of knowledge management. These results have made ECOPETROL a benchmark company in knowledge management in Colombia and one of the leaders in Latin America. Since 2004, Ecopetrol has worked on the identification, development and implementation of different methods and mechanisms for monitoring knowledge management and measuring the results generated by it in different operational activities. Within these methods and mechanisms ECOPETROL has performance indicators in the balance score card and performance objectives associated with knowledge management. There is also a process indicator associated with ECOPETROL'S knowledge management measurement model for key practices and processes inside the company. Documentation and dissemination of success stories associated with knowledge management, compliance of milestones for knowledge management activities and metrics and statistics on the use of collaborative tools in intranet have been captured. The monitoring and measurement of the results generated by knowledge management efforts in enterprises has been and will be an area of knowledge where there is a lot to build on and share. For this reason ECOPETROL wants to share the experience acquired and built in the area of knowledge management monitoring and measurement. This article will be of interest to the attendees as a real case study of the industry in the construction and implementation of methods for knowledge management monitoring and measurement within organizations.
