摘要
Microbial fouling films affect the corrosion behaviour of passive metals in natural waters and influences localised corrosion initiation slid propagation. The microbial films shift the open circuit corrosion potential (OCP) of passive metals and enhance the kinetics of the cathodic oxygen reduction reaction. ht a given chloride level in chloride hearing waters, the probability of localised corrosion initiation is increased causing the OCP to become enobled. A model for the mechanism of ennoblement has been proposed which is consistent with bio-geochemical data showing heavy metal cycling in stratified lakes and marine sediments.
