Li3MnO4 is suggested as a promising cathode material for lithium ion batteries due to its considerable theoretical capacities. In this study, Li3MnO4 and Li3MnO4/C were prepared by a solid-state reaction method. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical analysis. The presence of graphite in Li3MnO4/C composites dose not change the crystal structure of Li3MnO4. The best initial discharge capacity is 116.3mAh/g for Li3MnO4 sample at a constant current density of 4mA/g in a range of 1.8-4.4V while as in the case of Li3MnO4/C composite is 138.0mAh/g. In composites, the carbon not only increases the capacity, but also enhances capacity stability.
