Director John Frankenheimer, in crafting his 1996 TV movieAndersonville, a dramatization of life at the notorious Confederate prisoner-of-war camp from the American Civil War, was influenced by images of the Bosnian Serbs' "ethnic cleansing" concentration camps from the Bosnian War.
