Dante Alighieri. A family matter

In 1889, just three years after founding his publishing house and antiquarian bookshop, Leo Olschki started his editorial activity by inaugurating a first journal, "L'Alighieri". A choice, which testifies to his great love for the Poet's work and which will involve him both as an antique dealer and as a publisher. On the one hand, he started gathering the remarkable collection of Dantean works, which was acquired in 1905 by the City of Ravenna, and, on the other hand, in 1911 he brought to the press the monumental edition of the Comoedia Dantis with a preface by d'Annunzio. From the Venetian publication of Le figure dantesche in 1893 to the facsimile of the Landiano Codex, released on the occasion of the sixth centenary, the catalogue continued to be enriched with new studies, while the path traced by the founder was followed by subsequent generations, up to and beyond the new edition of the Commedia with a commentary by Robert Hollander, published in 2011 to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the monumental edition.
