TEACHER CANDIDATES' VIEWS ABOUT CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

The main aim of this study is to determine teacher candidates' views regarding classroom management strategies. This descriptive study was carried out on student teachers in their senior year at Gazi University, the Faculty of Education. Data were gathered through a questionnaire. The questionnaire was composed of a scale which included classroom management strategies and open ended questions. Statistical analysis procedures were used to analyze the quantitative data and content analysis procedures were utilized to analyze the qualitative data. The results indicated that the main classroom strategies comprised the use of questioning, drawing attention and warning those children with poor attention in the lesson. In addition, the results showed that there was no significant relationship between teacher candidates' opinions on classroom management strategies and the gender variable except for several strategies. There was also no significant relationship between teacher candidates' opinions and the program variable except for several strategies.
