Optimal Design Based on Computer Simulation for Improving Thermal Comfort in the Passage Space around Arcade Buildings in a Hot and Humid Climate

摘要
Arcade building is a unique architectural form in Lingnan Area of China. Its overhead space should provide a more comfortable passage space. However, during the stage of reconstruction design of Nanning Pedestrian Street, arcade buildings were completely retained in the structure and historical spirit as possible, whereas thermal comfort as a passage space was ignored. Through the analysis of field investigation, it was suggested that tree-planting, water-holding pavement and membrane structure would be effective cooling strategies. These passive strategies can improve thermal comfort in arcades and surrounding passage space. In order to optimize the thermal improving effect of these strategies, an optimal design was carried out based on computer simulation. Simulation results can be visualized in color images on a PC. From these images, a designer can easily understand where is cool, what degrees surface temperatures could be reduced in the passage space.
