Break-even analysis of poultry egg production in Croatia

摘要：

In this paper, 4 egg production systems were analysed: hens kept in cages, kept indoors, in a free-range system, and in an organic system. Financial results for indoor production was significantly higher than results for the other analysed production systems. In terms of profitability, egg production for the 4 methods yielded these profit margins: cages, 6.25%; indoor system, 12.8%; free-range system, 10.5%; and organic production, 1.29%. A break-even analysis showed that it is necessary to achieve yearly production of 264 eggs per laying hen kept in cages, 219 eggs per hen kept indoors, 211 eggs per hen kept in a free-range system, and 172 eggs per hen kept in an organic system. A higher rate of cover contribution (21.5%) related to indoor production confirms that this method is economically more efficient than production using the three other systems.
