The room temperature tensile behavior of cryomilled and quasi-isostatically forged commercially pure (CP)-Ti was investigated. Enhanced tensile strength (yield strength = 840 MPa, ultimate tensile strength = 902 MPa) in combination with high ductility (elongation to failure = 27.5%) was observed. This mechanical behavior is rationalized on the basis of processing history, microstructure (multimodal grain distribution, high-angle grain boundaries, high dislocation density) and chemistry. Relevant mechanisms are discussed and the results compared to those reported in earlier studies. (C) 2008 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
