摘要:
Urban population in the world is increasing dramatically. Major cities in Asia are growing remarkably and urban area is exploding disorderly after the World War II. Urban expansion causes social and environmental problems. This paper gives an idea how to analyze urban expansion and shows some experimental cases of Asian gigantic cities, Jakarta, Manila, Seoul, Ho Chi Min and Tokyo. Main idea is to grasp the long term trend of population and urban expansion by using the statistics and the time series of Landsat data taken since 1972. Subsidiary approach includes land use change analysis of specific area in the process of urban expansion.
