Ethnicity in Lithuanian Architecture

This article reveals examples of elements of ethnic culture in Lithuanian architecture. The appearance of this phenomenon can be related to the appearance and spread of nationalism. Particular elements of ethnic culture were used to express and to construct a particular ethnic identity. The aim of this article is to supply concrete and different cases of this phenomenon in architecture of the inter-war, Soviet and contemporary periods. This application of certain ethnic cultural elements in architecture allows us to talk about the invention of tradition as a response to global, modern processes that contribute to the loss of traditions.
