Study on relationship between productivity, inputs and environmental quality in tannery effluent affected farms of Tamil Nadu

摘要
The study revealed that yield decline for crops, the water quality, averting or defensive expenditure for land, irrigation water and drinking water was increased with pollution intensity caused by water pollution. The value productivity in seriously affected farms was influenced by both input and averting expenditure; in low affected farms by input expenditure and in moderately affected farms by quality indices. The policy initiatives suggested to increase the value productivity in seriously affected farms was to increase the household income by provision of compensation or input subsidy or finance for starting of allied activities. In moderately affected farms, abandoning tannery waste application and increasingly employing irrigation water averting expenditure could enhance the value productivity. In low affected farms, allowing the financial institutions to lend credit to increase input expenditure and cropping intensity could improve the same.
