摘要
In order to remove inclusions from aluminum alloy, the effect of a new application of traveling magnetic field (TMF) on metal purification was investigated, in experiments TMF was generated by means of alternating current passing through induction coils. The strength of TMF could be exactly controlled by adjusting the level of alternating current. In addition, primary silicon particles precipitating from the solidification process of hypereutectic Al-Si alloy were considered as inclusions. A series of experiments were performed to study the distribution of primary silicon particles in Al-Si alloy under the condition of TMF. The results indicate that primary silicon particles are eliminated effectively from aluminum alloy through forced flow driven by TMF. Moreover, the separating efficiency of primary silicon particles is improved with the increase of the electric current. Therefore it is proposed that forced flow driven by TMF could provide a new efficient method for metal purification.
