Acidity enhancement of H-mordenite by sulfation

摘要
Acidity and activity enhancement of H-mordenites by sulfation have been studied. Infrared spectra reveal that extra-framework aluminum species inherent in as-synthesized mordenites or added post synthesis combine with SO42- to form superacidic surface sulfate complex on the zeolites. The sulfated H-mordenites are more catalytically active than the original zeolites for pentane isomerization at 75 degrees C and other acid-catalyzed reactions. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A.
