Pig Farming SISCAL and SISCON: analysis and comparison of production

This study aims to compare the costs of production inherent in SISCAL and SISCON of the sector of pigs farming in Federal Institute Goiano campus Urutai. Methodology was used as a qualitative research through an exploratory study aimed at the reality of the environment under study. Data collection was done through the monitoring of a production cycle for both SISCAL and SISCON for the year 2010. The data of production costs were recorded in books and transported to a spreadsheet for further analysis and organization of information. The results showed significant differences in costs between the two production systems. The SISCAL had lower fixed and variable costs, but higher production cycle and less control of fattening animals. The SISCON had higher fixed and variable costs but lower production cycle and greater control in animal development. Thus, it appears that more important than the production system to choose is to understand what the goals of this production, because no system is totally superior to the other.
