Integration of Legal Translation with Translation Aesthetics

Translation aesthetics is closely related to and has great influence on translation practices, including legal translation. In this paper, the aesthetic traits, the aesthetic implications and the aesthetic orientation of legal translation are analyzed from the prospective of translation aesthetics. More specifically, we review the theories of translation aesthetics, make an analysis of the aesthetic characters of legal language and combine the two together to demonstrate the close relationship between translation aesthetics and legal translation. The legal translation have such distinctive beauties of its own as beauty of preciseness, beauty of solemnity, beauty of vagueness and beauty of conciseness, which is in consistence with its fundamental translating principles. Only with deep understanding of the aesthetic traits of legal translation as wall as the influence of translation aesthetics on it can we avoid the excessive and useless modifications in legal translation and use clear, precise and elegant language to bridge the gap between the east and west cultures and obtain faithfulness, accuracy and elegance.
