摘要
We discuss the state of our knowledge of the dust cloud in the inner solar system and the possible contribution of dust measurements aboard Solar Orbiter towards a better understanding of this centre of the "meteoritic complex". Solar Orbiter will perform dust measurements in a region where the collisional evolution as well as the thermal processing of dust and its solar wind interactions are expected to be severe. The relatively long phase of measurements is also suitable for tracing the variation in the spatial and size distribution of dust with heliocentric distance as well as the variation towards higher heliocentric latitudes. Present detectors could provide measurements of the dust fluxes and sizes and also impose constraints on the material composition of the detected dust particles.
