The Copenhagen Metro comprises 8,5km of twin bored tunnels of which approximately 500m are NATM tunnels. The Metro is currently under construction under a Design and Build contract. This paper describes the numerical analyses performed as part of the Employer's evaluation of the Contractor's design. One of the most important aims of the design of the Metro has been to limit the ground movement in order to prevent damages to buildings and utilities. Several numerical analyses were used to assess the design with respect to construction sequence, variations in soil strength and stiffness, as well as geometric imperfections.
