We present a digital implementation of soft detection for 3-chip differential binary phase-shift keying with improved receiver sensitivity and tolerance to chromatic dispersion. An optimum weighting factor is found for signals degraded by correlated phase distortions resulting from chromatic dispersion. (c) 2006 Optical Society of America.
