Spatial statistics of particles and pitting corrosion in aluminum alloys

Analyzed is the spatial statistics of particles and pitting corrosion in 7075-T651 aluminum alloys. Surfaces of the cubic specimens are referred to as the LS, LT and TS sides, each of which contain different areas and different number of particles. The critical variables understudy are the cluster size, location of particles, chemical composition and crystal structure. Variability in particle and pit size and geometry is found to be large. Location and clustering of particle types for modeling corrosion and fatigue must be determined. These details are discussed and presented.
