摘要
Magnesium alanates are potential hydrogen storage materials for PEM fuel cell applications. The method to synthesis the magnesium alanate was presented by ball milling MgH2 and AlCl3 mixtures. Several ball-milling conditions, such as milling temperature, ratio of the mixture, were studied upon MgH2 and AlCl3 mixtures. The IR spectrum of the low temperature ball-milling mixtures exhibits a typical absorption band of a hydride phase containing the AlH4-1 anion. The DSC plots from ball-milling mixtures exhibit two exothermic and endothermic peaks and are attributed to the decomposition of the synthesized compounds and the overplus of MgH2. The thermolysis accompanies with hydrogen gas evolution.
