In this paper, a compact configuration of a single layer, wideband gap coupled arrow shaped half-hexagonal microstrip antenna (H-HMSA) has been proposed for wireless communication systems. The gap coupled H-HMSA structure is fed by an indirect pair of a lambda/4 resonator. Wide bandwidth (BW) is achieved with the effective use of resonance introduced by lambda/4 resonator and gap coupled half hexagonal radiating patch. The proposed antenna methodology with working principle is broadly characterized. Also, investigation on the performance of the proposed antenna configuration with a variation of parameters via coupling gap, the length and width of a pair of the lambda/4 resonator has been presented. A peak gain of 6 dB and VSWR <= 2 BW of 8% is achieved. In addition, broadside radiation pattern has been obtained across the VSWR <= 2 BW. The measured results are in good agreement with simulated results.
