Kinetics of oxidation of primary alcohols by N-chloronicotinamide in aqueous acetic acid medium

摘要
The kinetics of oxidation of some primary alcohols by N-chloronicotinamide (NCN) has been studied in 90% (v/v) acetic acid-water mixture. The reactions exhibit first order dependence in [NCN], [H+] and [Cl-]. A small increase in rate is observed in [alcohol]. Addition of the reaction product, nicotinamide, does not affect the rate. A suitable mechanism has been proposed.
