Barium doped Li-rich cathode materials were synthesized using anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) templates. Doping with Ba improves the structural stability due to its high binding energy with O. The AAO templates were fabricated using a two-step anodizing process to make a regular and highly-porous structure. The structure of the samples was confirmed via X-ray diffraction and X-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS). The morphologies of the nano-rods and particles were observed via field emission scanning electron microscopy. The initial discharge capacity of the Li-rich material was of 217 and 239 mAh/g at 25 and 55 degrees C, respectively. The nano-structured materials showed the lowest over-voltage at 55 degrees C due to the nano-morphology and Ba-doping.
