Organizations have to satisfy a growing number of compliance requirements (e.g. established by laws) internally as well as when they interact with other organizations. Some aspects of these requirements have impact on the software systems that support the operation of organizations. In turn, integration platforms are largely used in order to facilitate the integration of heterogeneous systems, within intra-organizational as well as inter-organizational contexts. To this end, such platforms process and adapt messages exchanges between systems in order to solve integration issues. Given its mediation role and capabilities, integration platforms constitute a suitable place to control compliance requirements within these messages exchanges. This paper characterizes our previous work on controlling compliance requirements within adaptive integration platforms and presents an analysis of key features identifying the overall benefits, limitations and challenges of this approach.
