18TH-CENTURY FURNITURE THROUGH CASTA PAINTING

Casta painting is a pictorial genre created in the eighteenth century, it is described as a Hispano-American singularity. This study examines the furniture reflected in these paintings, it is explained through their styles and typologies, including the spaces that host this furniture. We will find reinterpretations of European (especially English styles) or Asian influences. This furniture conforms a unique style when combined with said influences and the own elements of the zone. There are furniture of popular invoice and others of more luxurious type. There are also included several techniques that are used to work wood such as maque, inlay or ebonized and other ornamental pieces such as mirrors or carpets.
