摘要
Lutetium-aluminum garnet laser ceramics fabricated by a technology of the Konoshima Kt* Company, Japan were investigated. Fracture surfaces of the ceramics were investigated in the contact mode on a Solver P47 atomic force microscope. The mechanical properties of the ceramics were studied by microhardness methods. Samples for investigation were cut by a diamond saw, then ground, and mechanically polished up to the 14th purity class. The samples were identified with a PMT 3 microhardness meter at room temperature by a Vickers diamond pyramid. The measurements showed that the microhardness of the Lu 3Al 5O 12 ceramics was H = 22.8 GPa, while in single crystals it was noticeably lower. Scanning electron and atomic force microscopic studies of the morphology of fractures and deformed areas around the indentations showed that the grain size in the Lu 3Al 5O 12 ceramics is sufficiently homogeneous and equals 1-2 μm.
