Biosensors have become important devices applied to diverse purposes in areas like chemistry, medicine, in the environmental, food, and biomaterials sciences and engineering, and various others. However, most of the sensing devices bear the problem of their inherent gradual loss of biological activity. Presently, this aspect has led several researchers to study the effect and interrelations of supramolecular structures like the cyclodextrins, CD, as recent studies on the latter have opened up new possibilities of creating useful tools to eliminate the said problem, as these compounds have been known to increase the solubility, availability and selectivity of various analytes of interest, which would be particularly useful to effect quantitative determinations in the health sector. The present work studies the electropolymerization of beta-cyclodextrin on a carbon paste electrode by means of electrochemical impedance and cyclic voltammetry, supplemented by SEM characterization. The results obtained showed that the beta-cyclodextrin polymer favored diffusion of dopamine, although better diffusion features were seen for the ascorbic acid when it was also present in solution.
