Seepage and leaching study of Karjan dam after grouting

Conventional drainage gallery is provided near the upstream face of the Karjan dam at foundation level. There was heavy seepage in foundation gallery. Grouting was done as are medial measure. The seepage discharge in the foundation gallery and water level in the reservoir were regularly monitored from the beginning. However, water samples from selected location in the gallery, reservoir and sumps were collected every month from July'94 and analysed chemically. Some porous and drainage pipes appeared to give turbid water occasionally. A study of seepage water and leaching of masonary is carried out. Paper discusses the study analysing data collected for two years. It also discuses the remedial measures carried out to prevent the seepage.
