摘要
Due to the electrical power crisis in Nigeria, a lot of Nigerians have embraced the use of energy saving devices such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and light emitting diode lamps so as to manage the available power and also save cost. This exposes the Nigerian market to sub-standard products of energy saving devices. Therefore, this work presents the quality assessment of compact fluorescent lamps available in Nigerian market. The data used for this research work is gotten from the CFLs chosen from three different bestselling brands available in the Nigerian market. Samples of each CFs and LED brand were bought from an electrical shop at Sango-Ota, Ogun State. Nigeria. The National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation (NCEEC) testing equipment were used to conduct the test on the samples. The test result clearly shows that the quality of the compact fluorescent lamps sold in the Nigerian market are sub-standard as the power rating of the lamp gotten from the test conducted do not match the power rating of the manufacturer on the pack of the lamp. It is also alarming to note that up to 63% difference was recorded between the power rating of the test results and that of the manufacturer's specification. This implies that customers does not even get half the value of their money and desired luminance.
