Several ferrocene-based aminophosphine ligands have been prepared and shown to be effective in the Ru(II)-catalysed asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones. The enantioselectivity is mainly determined by the carbon-centred chirality of the ligands but the planar chirality is also important such that (R-C,S-FC)- or (S-C,R-FC)- are the matched chiralities.
