Optimized Isolation and Cloaking of Two Closely Spaced and Interleaved Patch Array Antennas via Elliptical Metasurfaces for 5G Applications

摘要
The objective of the present research is to assess the efficacy of mantle cloaking in favor of achieving isolation between two densely packed patch antenna arrays. with close operating frequencies. The implementation involves elliptical mantle cloaks in the form of vertical strips to reduce mutual coupling between neighboring elements. The edge-to-edge interval of the two arrays' elements is less than lambda / 100, while the center-to-center distance of respective array element is lambda / 2. The functionality of this design is investigated with regard to impedance matching, antenna gain, decoupling level, radiation patterns, and efficiency. In an isolated scenario, Array I achieves 11.7 dB gain, 13.8 dB sidelobe level (SLL), and 99.6% total efficiency at its operating frequency; whereas Array II achieves 11.6 dB gain, 13.6 dB SLL, and 98.9% efficiency. The radiation properties of the arrays are accurately restored following the implementation of cloaking. The successful isolation of closely spaced array antennas on a single substrate presents opportunities for compact communication systems.
