Precipitation of fine powders of PbTiO3 derived from organometallic solution

Hydrolytic reactions of metal alkoxides offer several pathways for the preparation of ceramic powders. This paper reports a sol-precipitation process to prepare fine powders of PbTiO3 from a very highly stable precursor solution derived from the system (CH3COO)(2)Pb . Pb(OH)(2)-CH3COOH-i-C5H11OH-Ti((OBu)-Bu-n)(4). This simple route offers good control of homogeneity, stoichiometry and particle size. The chemical purity and dielectric properties of PbTiO3 have been determined. Formation aspects of the Perovskite phase are also discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
