The JAEA-AMS-TONO system is routinely used for C-14 measurements at Tono Geoscience Center, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and applied to neotectonics and hydrogeology, in support of research on geosphere stability applicable to the long-term isolation of high-level radioactive waste. Be-10 AMS has been developed for geochronological studies to estimate sedimentation rates and exposure age of basement rocks, incorporating a gas ionization detector with a large-volume gas absorber cell. Test measurements on C-14 and Be-10 reference materials show the system's performance and suitability for application in the geosciences. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
