摘要
Improving and developing the human capital has been a topic of much discussion these days. Within the Malaysian built environment where problems associated to the performance, delivery and quality of product or services emanating from ineffective performance of the human resource continue to be reported, critics have been frequent in associating these shortcomings with the inadequacies within the education, training, development and continuing professional development (CPD) provisions offered to the workforce. This article investigates education and Continuous Professional Development. It investigates their underpinning concepts with the aim to identify their differences and similarities. This was on the premise that these factors significantly influence the roles to be played by the parties responsible for the design and delivery of these provisions. Its findings suggest that the need to distinguish the similarities and differences in the application and adoption of the meanings of education and CPD are important; but more importantly, they must all be underpinned with learning. In concluding, it suggests that it is imperative that that the parties responsible for the education, training, learning, development and CPD for the workforce Must understand learning because it is the fundamental starting point to all the endeavors. These must be appreciated and applied within the design and delivery provisions to be effective.
