The FT infrared and FT Raman spectra (1800-200 cm(-1)) for some symmetric arylaldehyde azines containing the formula (Ar-CH=N-), are recorded. The studied azines are found to have the C-2h,, symmetry in the solid state as the prevailing conformer The v(N-N) stretch is observed only in the Raman spectra in the wavenumber range 1100-1000 cm(-1). For Salicylaldazine, The v(N-N) is observed as a strong Raman line at 1063 cm(-1) in the solid phase contrary to what has previously been suggested. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
