摘要
We discuss the importance of flexibility in the design of the graphics subsystem of a Virtual Reality System if it is to meet its requirements efficiently. We describe the way in which the Graphite programming language can be used to define hardware graphics accelerators for Virtual Reality systems. Given suitable reconfigurable hardware accelerators, this will allow customised rendering systems to be defined in a software form with the full speed potential of a dedicated hardware system. We discuss the suitability of a range of constructs within the Graphite language for this task by showing how particular fragments of a graphics accelerator would be defined.
