In vitro evaluation of the antifungal activity of toothpastes

摘要：

A variety of toothpastes differing in composition are avaitable in the market. They were tested for their effectiveness regarding their antifungal activity. Six different dentifrices that included five toothpastes and one toothpowder were tested against seven species of Candida using the disk diffusion method. Measurable zones of inhibition were obtained with all. the dentifrices and the formulation containing triclosan, whose antibacterial activity has already been demonstrated, showed excellent antifungal activity. Herbal formulation exhibited good antifungal activity thereby confirming the medicinal value of plant products. (c) 2005 Elsevier SAS. All rights reserved.
