摘要
Graded microstructures were generated in notched tensile specimens of an age-hardenable titanium alloy in order to tailor the local resistance to plastic deformation to the expected local degree of mechanical loading. Experiments verified that the local strength increase in the notch root causes the proportional limit (as measured macroscopically in a tensile test) to increase. This result can be explained using a local stress approach. Based on the flow curves for unnotched specimens of a reference (non-graded) material and an empirical correlation between yield stress and microhardness, the flow curves of the graded notched specimens could be successfully predicted using finite element analysis.
