ASSESSING SORPTION CHANGES IN COTTON YARNS DURING WET PROCESSING, MERCERIZATION, AND SCOURING

摘要
Yarns properties depend on the spinning and finishing processes used, such as mercerization and scouring. Ring-combed (RSc), ring-carded (RSca), and open-end (OE) spun yams were mercerized and scoured by conventional alkaline and enzymatic treatment by alkaline pectinase scouring process. The degree of mercerization, orientation as well as porosity through monolayer capacity, water retention value and 2-propanol value were studded. The results indicate that porosity increased after mercerization and the increase is higher on alkaline than on enzymatic scoured. Comparing differently spun yams the highest degree of porosity was found on RSc yams independent of the way of treatment.
