A THEORETICAL STUDY OF METALLIC RECTANGULAR WAVEGUIDES IN THE THZ RANGE

摘要
In this paper, a study of the propagation of THz electromagnetic waves inside the waveguide is carried out. A simulation tool has been developed in order to analyse the performance of various waveguide designs namely the metallic rectangular and in photonic bad-gap waveguides. Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to solve the Helmholtz equation for given waveguide designs. The boundary conditions are adapted to the device's Structures. This study has been carried out with MATLAB PDE Toolbox reducing 3D problems to 2D. Our results have been tested by comparing the designs with perfect and real metals in the frequency range of 2-4 THz. Material properties are determined by using frequency dependent models.
