摘要
Now a days Jaundice is a common disease that occurs in infants or adults when the bilirubin concentration raises in the body. Some underlying condition that causes jaundice are such as acute inflammation of the liver or inflammation of the bile duct. Brain damage or death is some common consequences of this disease. There are several invasive or non-invasive methods are available to detect jaundice. But the drawbacks of existing invasive methods are so much time consuming and real time monitoring is not possible. The existing invasive methods can cause trauma in patients and the non-invasive devices cost thousands of dollars. In order to avoid additional trauma and high cost, we have designed a non-invasive jaundice detection and Total Serum Bilirubin (TSB) measurement system based on yellow discoloration on eye. Here a custom made goggle including camera with customized focal length is developed to capture the image of the sclera. A dedicated algorithm for this work with Open Computer Vision and Python language is used to analyze the image. After calibrating the system with several volunteer patients, the scheme can discern jaundice in the human body. We have tested our system among 25 patients and the test result indicates an accuracy of 90%. This can be implemented as a portable jaundice monitoring system when clinical technologies are inaccessible, which ultimately lessen health care expenditure.
