摘要
Micropatterned alignment of nematic liquid crystals formed by stripes of alternating random planar and homeotropic anchorings was theoretically proposed by Qian and Sheng [1]. We will present and discuss experimental results of alignment properties of nematic liquid crystals on this micropatterned surface. Moreover, we also investigated microscopic switching behavior of a micropatterned nematic liquid crystal cell. This molecular alignment technique by using non-polarized UV light has a potential to realize a large scale electric paper.
