A summary on the status of the measurements of the Unitarity Triangle angle a using the decays B -> pi pi, B -> p pi and B -> pp and on the future perspectives at the Large Hadron Collider experiment LHCb is presented. The UTfit collaboration, combining the BABAR measurements from B -> p pi and B -> pp, give as Standard Model solution the value alpha = (106 +/- 8)degrees. The LHCb Collaboration has estimated the sensitivity on alpha from the B-0 -> p pi decay obtaining a relative error alpha/sigma(alpha) <= 0.1, in one nominal year of data taking.
