摘要
The paper first briefly introduces the practical methods for ultimate strength analysis of the ship hull girder proposed by Inernational Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Common Structural Rules (CSR). Then it shortly presents the home-made computer programme ULTIS based on the IACS recommendations. Subsequently, benchmark studies of ultimate strength of a bulk carrier built in Croatian shipyard employing program ULTIS and program MARS 2000 are attached. The examples illustrate the stepwise yielding and buckling scenario of hull elements both in deck and bottom structures under sagging and hogging conditions. Finally, the paper investigates the possible improvement of ship's hull girder ultimate strength by strengthening of longitudinal structural elements following their failure sequences under bending.
