摘要
The structure of the digestive system of the larva of the brown house moth (Hofmannophila pseudospretella Stainton) was studied by light microscopy. It was found to be similar to that of another keratinophagous lepidopteran larva, Tineola bisselliella Hummel. However, H. pseudospretella was found to have an additional muscle layer in the outer wall of the midgut, and less differentiation between midgut regions. Midgut epithelial cells were larger in fed than in starved larvae, and the presence of large free cytoplasmic spheres was almost exclusively associated with fed larvae.
