摘要
After the most recent expansion, the European Union, and consequently Greece, is found at a turning point in its history. While the previous expansions had functioned as a source of wealth and experience for the Union, the recent accessions and those scheduled to take place in the near future will further the distances at every level: demographic, economic, social, developmental-causing a gap between the old and new member countries. A widely held view today is that in the years to come there will be even further rearrangements of a series of indicators, indicators of demographics, economics, employment, immigrant inflow etc. In the face of the new developments and the pessimistic scenarios, the state of the world will be changing and Greece will be faced with the challenge of being invited to play a decisive role in the wider Balkan region, regarding both external and internal parameters affecting its development in the new millennium. The aim of the presentation is to attempt a correlation of current demographic trends with economic and developmental factors, as well as employment conditions in the 10 new member countries of the EU, through the use of certain evaluation models of the aforementioned dynamics. The presentation also aims to trace the position of Greece in the face of these new dynamics, as well as its prospects of sustainable development.
