摘要
Maria de la Cruz (Machuca) (1563-1638) is a virtually unknown writer in the Hispanic world; as a Discalced Carmelite nun, she had to face the burning of her books and continue with her literary vocation after this hard episode. In this article, we will analyze the importance of the unusual education of Maria de la Cruz in Lida, her self-referential work; on the basis of this education, and through the seemingly paradoxical combination of memory mechanisms, self-censorship and inspiration, she managed to make her second literary stage survive censure by her superiors.
