摘要
The ongoing discussion about quality in education inevitably addresses one of its central challenges - teacher professionalisation. In order to gain insight into teacher professionalism it is vital to focus on the best representatives of the profession, on expert teachers. The paper aims to present a research project which attempts to investigate the nature of expertise in foreign language teaching. More specifically, its theoretical background, methodology and partial results of its first phase which focused on expert efficiency (observable aspects of expertise), knowledge and insight (deep/hidden aspects of expertise) in expert teachers of foreign languages are discussed.
