摘要
Recent studies show that AIDS-Kaposi's sarcoma (AIDS-KS) can regress upon highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). KS is characterized by the production of cellular gamma Interferon (gamma IFN) mediating KS lesions development and angiogenesis. The aim of our study was to assess the production of gamma IFN and Interleukin (IL)-4 in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBMC) derived from AIDS-KS patients before and after HAART. To this purpose, PBMC were cultured in the presence or absence of rIL-2 enriched T-cell conditioned media (TCM) that contain the same type 1 cytokines increased in KS patients. TCM has been used to culture lymphocytes infiltrating KS tissue (TIL). The data show that PBMC from patients in HAART release gamma IFN at increased levels in the presence of TCM but gamma IFN production declines after HAART in cultures maintained in the absence of TCM.
